Mayor Lee Barrow opened the regular council meeting on Wednesday, August 6 quickly moving into executive session to discuss "re-appointment" and procedures to fill the vacancy for Preston Hart's seat.

Hart was the choice of the voters in the 2023 General Election, taking the Position 5 seat on the Connell City Council. Due to family reasons, he reluctantly will be giving up his seat when he moves outside of Connell City limits later this month.

Mayor Barrow expressed, "With Council member Hart planning to leave us, council will have to fill that by appointment."

The discussion took place behind closed doors, and no actions were taken after the 20-minute executive session. Mayor Barrow announced that the council vacancy would be opened up to interested community members, for public applications. However, a short timeline was given, with applications due within a week.

Applications including a bio on yourself, reasons for wanting to be on council, lists of your experience, etc. must be submitted by Wednesday, August 13 to city hall.

Mayor Barrow stated he will get those to the council to review and hopefully get a decision made at the next council meeting, scheduled for Wednesday August 20 at 6pm.

Questions on the application process and or vacancy can be directed to Mayor Lee Barrow at Connell City Hall (509-234-2701).
