The Kahlotus Community Klothing Closet is set to open February 10 at the Lion’s Club building (255 E. Weston Street Kahlotus, WA.).
The N. Franklin community has really stepped up with donations and support of this project providing donations of clothes and racks. Ann Doran expressed, “A big thank you to the Lion’s Club. They've been so good to me.”
Not only has the Lion’s Club donated the space, they have provided support as well. They only ask that their donation bucket be placed out, to generate funds for local scholarships, during give-a-ways.
Doran stated her passion for giving came from her dad. “My dad was all about helping the little man,” she shared as a tear rolled down her face. Her dad passed away recently.
Her mom is also helping with the project, managing social media posts to help get the word out and accepting donations at her apartment in Connell (drop offs can be made at the S. end of the M&M Motel on the backside by the puppy gate).
Doran stated what prompted her to do this is, “I see the need. I see the kids growing faster than you can get to the store to buy them clothes…” She’s also noticed the families, parents too are in need and then she saw there are a lot of people who want to give. “It isn’t me, it’s we,” she said. “We are filling the need.”
Doran is seeking donations for clothes and accessories, as well as people who need items.
If you would like to donate or would like to get clothes, the first give-a-way will be held on February 10 from 10 am to 4 pm. Doran added, “It’s open to anyone! It may be the Kahlotus Community Klothing Closet but we’ll help people from anywhere.”
At this time, the clothing closet will be open every other week. Adjustments may be made depending on the success as well as the needs of the people.
"My hope is just that it is a success and people are helped," Doran expressed.
