Hi there, my name is Miurlin Escalante and I am the office manager and proofreader at the Graphic. Although I work mainly in the office, some of you may have seen me around the schools covering varying events like play day, sporting events, concerts, or around the community taking pictures of events like Fall Festival or Halloween. I am trying to get out more and get to know the community and its members more every day so be on the lookout for me.
I try my best to catch mistakes before they hit our pages, but sometimes they slip by me. I am human after all. Thank you to those in the community who take the time to reach out and let us know when a mistake makes it on the page and gives us an opportunity to rectify it.
I handle a lot of the little day to day office responsibilities like getting documents in the mail, processing payments, answering phones, and other day to day office duties. If you’ve called the office with a billing or subscription issue, you’ve most likely talked to me and hopefully, I was able to resolve your issue.
One of the other things I get to do is update the birthdays and anniversaries. If you want to be listed, please reach out to us at fcgstaff1@gmail.com and we can get you on the calendar. I know we may have some outdated information, but we rely on the community to keep us informed if someone left the area or no longer wants to be posted. Please reach out to us and I will take care of updating the records. We are only a call or email away.
I love getting to work with history in the making every day and being a part of documenting it. Not only do I get to help with the current stories, but I also get the privilege of looking through our archives of our town’s history and reliving what has once been told.
You are welcome to stop by and get lost in history through our archive books. They are beyond interesting and you may even find a familiar face within their pages.
In the four years that I have been at the Graphic, I have learned much of the services I have provided. My editor, Katherine Trowbride, has brought out the writer and photographer that was hiding in me and has allowed me to develop those skills within the pages of the Graphic.
It is so cool that Local News Day falls on my anniversary at the local newspaper…I call that fate.
I have always loved print and that was a major decisive factor that made me want to work at the paper. I am all for digital stuff but nothing beats print, in my opinion. Print copies give you something to rely and reflect on and they can’t be easily manipulated after it’s been printed and archived. Plus, who doesn’t love flipping through pages instead of scrolling endlessly?
I invite you to pick up a copy of our local newspaper, if you haven’t already done so, and see what’s new or what’s something you might have missed. And to keep picking up future editions and look for something that catches your eye.
Maybe there’s something that you would like to see featured that we may have missed; let us know and we’ll try to cover it.
I love getting to know our community members every time I’m at an event and getting to feature someone’s kid that did great at an event and hearing about how excited they were to be in the paper. It makes my work worthwhile knowing that just one person took fulfillment in that week’s edition and that my work meant something.
If you have an event coming up and would like me to attend, send us an email and I will do my best to be there!
I look forward to meeting more of you in the future. Thank you for your support thus far.
