Mesa, WA - Chiloe Chervenell is in custody in the Umatilla County Jail awaiting extradition following a kidnapping homicide in Mesa on Thursday, Aug.4.

Commander Monty Huber, with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, spoke to reporters Friday morning stating the Sheriff’s Office had responded to a call of a deceased female at 7:30 pm on August 4. While investigating, they received a tip that a prior resident had communicated with a friend, stating she had killed somebody.

In the investigation, they realized two children (ages 7 & 9) were missing from the residence. The search for the missing children began while the investigation at the home continued. In the meantime, some communications came in through the victim’s phone.

Sheriff’s contacted Oregon State Police and the Marrow County Sheriff’s Office to be on the lookout for the suspects vehicle.

They were able to locate the vehicle along with the suspect and the two children, just outside Umatilla, OR. The children are under the custody of the Oregon Child Protective Services. Huber stated that Chervenell was the children’s biological mother, however she was under a protective order not to see them.

A gentleman, stated to be the Uncle of the children, was living in an apartment at the back of the residence. However, it is not known if he was home at the time or how much he knows. The Sheriff’s have him set up at a local hotel.

The Washington State Crime lab joined Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies at the scene of 112 N. 1st Ave in Mesa to collect evidence and investigate further on Friday, Aug. 3. Part of 1st Ave was blocked off from traffic as they worked.

Coroner Curtis McGary stated the autopsy was conducted in Spokane, WA. on Monday, Aug. 8.

The name of the deceased was released on Monday, as Kathleen (Kathy) Chervenell-Brinson (54 yrs old). She had worked at the Circle-K in Connell and was currently working for Dollar General.
