The North Franklin School District has been joined by Connell Police today in seeking the cause of an "unverified" threat to students at OJH that was posted on social media yesterday.
An initial text message went out to junior high parents at 8 am., as school was starting on Wednesday, Nov. 6, letting them know of a possible threat. The text message went on to say that they "take all threats very seriously" and were "working closely with the Connell Police Department to investigate the matter."
Staff was also notified of the issue.
The text added, "We do not believe there are any safety risks to students at this time."
As the day unfolded rumors spread that there was going to be a possible shooting. Students and parents began to be afraid, and parents began flooding the school to pick up their students.
The Connell Police is interviewing students but so far, the stories have not led to anything substantial. Many of the stories are varied, according to Superintendent Brian Moore. One thing that was verified is that a social media account "OJH 28-29" had a post by an unnamed student claiming to harm other students at OJH today. The Police and District were unable to verify the post as it has since been removed.
Superintendent Moore reiterated, "The school is not in lock down. We believe there is no safety risk to students or staff."
The school remains secure, despite the heavy traffic of parents coming to pick up kids.
A press release from the North Franklin School District, posted to social media just before 11 am stated, "We are aware of an unverified report of a social media post in which an unnamed student claimed they were going to harm other students at OJH today...." The press release went on to state some brief details, adding, "As we receive updated information, we will continue to communicate with families and the community. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation."
