CHS Tennis sends four to state tournament

Connell, WA – The Connell Eagles boys tennis team sent four members to the State Tennis Tournament in Yakima on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, May 23-25. Aaron Chase and Eastyn Holst earned a return trip.Uriel Lara and Reichert Specht each earned their first trip to the State Tournament this past weekend. The boys finished in a tie for seventh place with Chelan and Omak.

Chase and Holst teamed up for the second straight year as a CHS doubles team. They looked to improve on last year’s state experience, when they lost their first two rounds and were eliminated on Friday. The opened the State Tournament with a 6-4, 6-2 victory before losing 6-0, 6-2 in the quarterfinals to the defending state champion, and the eventual 2024 state champion, doubles team from Bush High School. Despite the disappointing set back, they rebounded to win their third round match 6-1, 6-3. The team lost the final match 6-1, 6-1 to finish seventh overall.


Appearing in the State Tournament for the first time, Lara and Specht lost their opening round match 6-1, 6-1. They were able to remain in the tournament with a 6-1, 6-2 consolation bracket victory in round 2. They lost the third round match up 6-3, 6-3 to a doubles team from SCAC rival Granger, missing out on the placing round.
