Eagles Track brings home 1A State Championship Trophy

By: Katherine Trowbridge

It was an amazing weekend in Cheney as the Connell Eagles’ Track Team excelled at the state track meet.

“It was a fun, fun weekend. IT was fun to see the kids compete. The girls went from 15th to 5th. The boys took the state title, the first time since 1978,” stated coach Bryant Anderson. Coach Scott Forsyth added, “Typically you see teams win on the track. We won on the field.”

Forsyth went on to state, “Ultimately, at sub districts, districts and state - everyone did their jons and got it done.”

The team received a parade as they drove back into Eagle Country and up to the school. Fire Truck sirens and lights flashing lead the way as the team stuck their heads out of bus windows waving their trophy and cheering. One young girl stood in the back of a pick-up truck with pom poms cheering them on. Most people didn’t realize what was going on. Forsyth stated excitedly, “That was great. Everyone was like, what’s going on.”
